John is the 3rd child of a career Air Force family. John's father was in Air Force supply where he was a logistics officer.

John joined the U. S. Army at Camp Zama, Japan in 1962 and went through basic training at Fort Ord, California. He attended Army Aviation School at Fort Rucker, Alabama; was stationed at Ft. Benning, Georgia, and after combat readiness training, was shipped to Vietnam. He served as crew chief and gunner on the Iroquois helicopters, UH-1B's and D's. John was honorably discharged from the Army at Fort Carson, Colorado and entered college in Minot, North Dakota as an architecture student.

John met his wife, Betty, at Minot State College and after 2 frigid years left Minot, traveling to Dallas, Texas where he was employed as a mechanical designer for Collins Radio Corporation for two years. John continued his education at Southern Methodist University, switching majors to Systems Engineering.

He was hired away from Collins by Texas Instruments, where he spent 12 years working his way up to a management position in the Military Products division. While at TI, John worked as a research designer on several key guided-missile programs, including HARM and HARPOON. John was recruited away from Texas Instruments in 1981 and joined Recognition Equipment, an optical recognition technology company where he served as Director of Engineering and Business Technology. In 1987 John was hired by Rockwell International and Alcatel (Alcatel bought the telecommunications division of Rockwell in 1991) and rose to Alcatel's highest technology position - Senior Information Technology Director.

John's wife is a special education teacher. John and Betty have two children, a daughter, Shawn who is a secondary education mathematics teacher in Frisco, Texas and a son, Jordan who is a special education teacher in Conroe, Texas.

Along the way, 1987-1988, John completed training as a Stephens Minister and continues that mission today. From 1987-1991, John attended the Anglican School of Theology in Dallas, completing three years of study toward ordination.

In 1999, John was recruited to join The Christian Broadcasting Network in Virginia Beach, Virginia as Director of Technology. While there John was instrumental in developing a spinoff of CBN, a for-profit company called Compass Technology Management.

John's life purpose is helping others through his leadership skills. He is active in several international organizations within the Lutheran Church. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Clinical Psychology at Walden University.
