Teens at English Camp Clean Up Following Balloon-Fight
From 5-18 July, 2008, twenty-two OBI volunteers were in Ukraine (UA) to conduct an English Camp for military dependents in Vorzel, UA. Working in conjunction with Olive Branch Ukraine (OB-UA), OBI provides annual support to this Ukrainian Military Christian Fellowship (UMCF) camp project with funds and volunteer workers. These volunteers teach English, Bible, and conduct worship services and camp activities for Ukrainian campers, ranging in age from pre-teen to more mature military and family members.
OBI members in attendance included Victor Salazar, Camp Co-Director and Executive Director, OBI; Paula Halvorson, Camp Co-Director and Board Member, OBI and Kris Harper, English Instructor and Board Member, OBI.
Beyond an additional nineteen American team members, others who either participated in the camp or were contacted in country during the course of the OBI visit included Valentin Korenyvich, Director, Olive Branch (OB)-UA; Dr. Gregory Komendant, Board Chairman, OB-UA; Vasily Khimich, National Director; UMCF (Ukrainian Military Christian Fellowship); LTC Torbjorn Bostrom, AMCF (Association of Military Christian Fellowships) Vice President for North and Eastern Europe; Zhanna Zegedeva, National Director, Ukrainian Women’s Ministry; and three Hospital Chaplains in Cherkassy Oblast.
OBI has remained committed to this English Camp project as a positive influence on Ukrainian uniformed service members and their families and a way to enhance the quality of life for attendees and those influenced by them.
