Leading Medical/Rehabilitation Staff
Visits Sri Lanka
December 2007

Through OBI efforts, Walter Reed Army Medical Center dispatched a team of medical experts to Sri Lanka to provide education, training and information exchange on the treatment and rehabilitation of Sri Lanka military amputee and paralyzed soldiers. The team included an orthopedic surgeon, a rehabilitation physician, a physical therapist, and an occupational therapist. Because of its ongoing war with the insurgent group, the Tamil Tigers, the Sri Lankan military now has over 4,000 amputees and 1,000 paralyzed soldiers whose needs demand appropriate, skilled medical attention.
